Ritual of Aperitivo

Writer: Ognjen KaricOgnjen Karic

One weekend we decided to go to the city of Milano. I always wanted to visit the golden city of fashion and good food. It was a little weekend escape that really filled our batteries.

Why Milano?

Milan is famous for its wealth of historical and modern sights. Its really hard to choose where will you go first so its a good thing to explore things before going there. First one and the most famous is the Duomo, it is one of the biggest and grandest Gothic cathedrals in the world, inside of it is something really special.

To enter the Duomo you have to buy the tickets, facing the Duomo, go to the right side of it and check the building across the street. The prices are not really expensive and the ticket is worth it.

In the center of the church is buried St. Charles Borromeo, the most important benefactor of the cathedral. The Duomo is the seat of the Archdiocese of Milan. Construction began in 1386 and lasted for almost 500 years, and the works continue today. The Cathedral of Milan is one of the largest churches in the world, second largest in Italy. The highest tower is 106.5 meters high and be sure to climb to the top of the cathedral to enjoy the spectacular view of the Milan.

In Milan we also have La Scala, one of the best established opera houses in the globe, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, an glamorous shopping centre.

In Brera art gallery, we can find some of the finest artistic works in Europe. For football fans there is a famous stadium, The San Siro, history lovers can find something interesting in a grand medieval castle Castello Sforzesco, and also a UNESCO world heritage site Santa Maria Delle Grazie Bassilica. Streets are really beautiful and well designed. People are enjoying the daily activities like drinking coffee or eat fine food in lounge bars across all of the city. It has something for everyone, art and food lovers.

The Inside of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is really amazing, its filled with art and golden arches. Restaurants inside are one of the best in the world. The food is great, and the prices are ok for the location you are in. Its always full of people from all over the world. Its also full of fashion stores that are famous in the world, like Gucci, Prada, Armani and so on. We really enjoyed our time in the Galleria, there is also a famous ice cream maker which is selling really good ice cream. Its not just the name, it is good.

Within walking distance of the Duomo, across the pedestrian street Via Dante is really beautiful and well made renaissance castle of the Sforzesco family that once ruled Milan. Myself a history buff really enjoyed my time in there. There is a big museum inside the castle that holds a lot of statues, weapons, armors, pictures, portraits of past rulers and families that ruled the golden city. The castle is worth a visit even if you dont go to the museums becauses the ceilings are painted according to the designs of Leonardo Da Vinci.

Milan is the city for people that love wandering away from the beaten path, there is something for everyone on each corner of the city. It has an abundance of entertainment options and amenities. It has an amazing underground subway that connects every suburb. Ritual of aperitivo can be enjoyed, between hours of 6pm and 8pm, the entire city seems to be grabbing a drink and complimentary snack before heading home. Every person that feels like an explorer should visit Milan, roam the fabulous streets and pretend you are a resident of this world class city.
