Our story continued by staying in a beautiful apartment in the city of Heraklion. Accommodation prices are really cheap and tailored to everyone's budget. Heraklion is a city that is a blend of different cultures. When you walk around the city you literally feel a breath of history springing from the stone streets and various buildings. It is rich in museums, hotels, restaurants, bars and archeological sites.
Heraklion is the capital of Crete and the fifth largest city in Greece. They managed to preserve the traces of the ancient Minoan civilization. The city consists of 2 parts, new and old part. The new part is full of shops, parks, squares while the old part is full of Venetian architectural wealth. One of the most famous sights is the Venetian port. On the way to the port you can see the Venetian Square and the Venetian Loggia which was built in the 17th century.
Namely, when you spend a couple of days in Crete, you really start thinking about the legend that Zeus was born on an island. According to the legend, Zeus' mother hid Zeus while she was fleeing to a cave on Mount IDA, in order to save him from his father Chromos.
